Tesla Supercharger Invoices with VAT: A Guide for Business Owners

If you run a business and charge a Tesla at Superchargers, you probably want two things: the charging cost booked as a business expense, and the VAT on it reclaimed where the rules allow. Both start with the same document — Tesla's invoice for each session. This guide explains what to check on those invoices, how to collect them without tapping through the app every month, and what TeslaSync's own VAT invoices are.

Not tax advice. VAT rules differ by country and by how your business uses the car. Use this guide to get your paperwork in order, then let your accountant decide what you can deduct.

Two different invoices — don't mix them up

  • Tesla's charging invoices are issued by Tesla for each paid Supercharger session. They are the documents your VAT claim for charging depends on.
  • TeslaSync subscription invoices are issued by us for what you pay for TeslaSync Premium. They cover our fee only.

TeslaSync collects Tesla's invoices; it does not issue, change or "fix" them. The PDF you get from TeslaSync is the PDF Tesla issued.

What to check on Tesla's charging invoice

What a Tesla invoice shows is decided by Tesla and can vary by country, so open one of yours and check it against what your tax authority needs. In the EU, the official Your Europe guide to VAT invoices says a VAT invoice must show the seller's VAT identification number and the amount of VAT charged, along with other standard details. A practical checklist:

  • Seller: which Tesla company issued it, and its VAT number
  • VAT: the VAT rate and amount, or a note on why none was charged
  • Buyer: whether your company's name or VAT number appears, if your country requires it
  • Charge details: date, location, energy and amount
  • Currency: the currency you were charged in, which can differ when you charge abroad

If something your accountant needs is missing — for example your company's details — that is a question for Tesla, because only Tesla can issue its invoices. A tool that collects invoices can't add it.

Charging in another EU country

A charge in another country may carry that country's VAT — the invoice will show it. VAT charged abroad generally isn't reclaimed on your normal VAT return. According to the EU's guide to VAT refunds, a business charged VAT in an EU country where it isn't established may be entitled to a refund from that country, claimed online through the tax authority where your business is based. The same page warns that some countries don't refund certain categories, such as cars or fuel. Keep the invoices grouped by country to make the claim easier.

Collect every invoice without the busywork

The VAT claim only works if you actually have every invoice, every month. TeslaSync collects them for you:

  • Free: your charging invoices sync every day, organized by month and car, with PDF downloads (5 a day).
  • Premium (€3.99/month excl. VAT): new invoices are emailed automatically to any addresses you choose, each month downloads as one ZIP, and you can export your charging history to CSV.
  • Tesla subscriptions too: Premium also collects your Tesla FSD and Premium Connectivity invoices, another business cost many people forget.

What TeslaSync's VAT invoices are

Because TeslaSync Premium is itself a business expense, every Premium payment comes with a proper invoice for that payment:

  • Issued by Alluring Code, LDA (Portugal), the company behind TeslaSync, with our company details, VAT ID and VAT exemption.
  • You can add your company's VAT number at checkout, and update your billing details later.
  • Prices are shown excluding VAT; VAT is added at checkout where it applies. For a business in another EU country, the EU's VAT guide explains that VAT on cross-border business services is usually accounted for by the buyer, so it may not appear on the invoice.
  • They're emailed automatically (to you or a billing address you choose) and included in monthly ZIP downloads next to your charging invoices.
What they are not: TeslaSync's invoices cover only what you pay TeslaSync. They don't replace Tesla's charging invoices, and they don't add VAT details to them.

A monthly routine that works

  1. Collect every Tesla invoice for the month: charging invoices sync on their own, and FSD and Premium Connectivity invoices take one click in TeslaSync.
  2. Check a new invoice against the checklist above whenever you charge in a new country.
  3. Send the PDFs (and a CSV, if needed) wherever they need to go — or let TeslaSync Premium email them automatically as they arrive.
  4. Keep foreign-country invoices together for the VAT refund claim.

Frequently asked questions

How do I collect all my Tesla charging invoices for my business every month?
Sign in to TeslaSync with your Tesla account. Your charging invoices sync every day for free, and Premium emails new ones automatically to any addresses you choose and lets you download each month as one ZIP.
Does TeslaSync change or reissue Tesla's charging invoices?
No. TeslaSync downloads the invoice PDFs Tesla issues and keeps them unchanged. What they show, including any VAT details, is decided by Tesla.
Can I reclaim VAT on Supercharger charging?
That depends on your country's rules and on what the invoice shows. In the EU, a VAT invoice normally has to show the seller's VAT number and the amount of VAT charged. Ask your accountant whether a Tesla invoice meets your country's rules.
What is a TeslaSync subscription invoice?
It is the invoice for what you pay TeslaSync for Premium. It includes our company details, VAT ID and VAT exemption, and you can add your company's VAT number at checkout. It does not replace or change Tesla's invoices.
Can TeslaSync email my Tesla invoices automatically?
Yes, with Premium. New charging invoices can be emailed automatically to any addresses you choose, and each month can be downloaded as a ZIP.
